Amanda Serrano Goes the Distance in an All-Out War Against Miriam Gutierrez

Unified featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (42-1-1, 30ko) secured the mega-showdown with undisputed lightweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor by soundly defeating a tough Miriam Gutierrez (14-2, 5ko) in an all-out war.

Serrano, a seven-divisional champion, returned to the lightweight division to finally fight the undisputed lightweight champion. She took issue with taking a pay cut and ultimately pulled out of their 2020 showdown. The Real Deal has recently been talking about fighting Taylor. Furthermore, DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn has stated that their fight will take place at Madison Square Garden in April 2022.

SERRANO STARTED FAST

The Real Deal came out firing and jumped on the older Gutierrez, landing quick and accurate combination punches. She was lighting-fast, looking to stop the woman that took Taylor the distance. However, Gutierrez survived, and as the fight continued, it became an all-out war.

Gutierrez was able to land good right and left hook counters and landed a thudding left hook to the body. Serrano was able to use the jab to back up her opponent and attack the body with a brutal straight left-hand to the pit of the stomach.

GUTIERREZ CAME TO FIGHT

Fighting in the United States for the first time, Gutierrez showed some heart by connecting with the counter right-hand. Furthermore, she did a good job of staying off the ropes in the second half of the fight.

Serrano was razor-sharp – coming forward, sitting down on her punches as she landed left and right hooks solely focused on the body. She also started using left uppercut to setup the right hook counters to the body that stunned Gutierrez. Still, Gutierrez refused to go away and kept fighting landing a good counter right and left hooks while taking a beating to the body.

THEY FOUGHT HARD TO THE END

The current unified featherweight champion turned up the heat by overwhelming her opponent with accurate volume punching. She landed the counter overhand right followed up with the straight left hand.

Going into the closing rounds, the fans could not believe Gutierrez was still standing. Serrano was clicking on all cylinders, continuously attacking the body with ruthless aggression. However, Gutierrez switched to southpaw and landing a good left uppercut and right hook counter. Nonetheless, Serrano threw punches from the start of the tenth round until the bell sounded. She went hard to the body with a counter left hook that stunned her opponent once again.

When the final bell sounded, the crowd was on their feet, showing appreciation for the heart both women showed. The judge’s scorecards were 99-90, 99-91, and 100-90, all for The Real Deal.

Although Serrano was mum on Katie Taylor, all eyes are focused on the mega-showdown in 2022.
