Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano High Stakes Rematch
On November 15, Undisputed junior welterweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor and unified featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano will enter the ring, with the winner emerging as the top fighter in women’s boxing.
This rematch featuring these two champions has been in the making for a long time. In 2022, KT (23-1, 6KO) and The Real Deal (47-2-1, 31KO) first collided in front of a packed crowd at Madison Square Gardens. Their battle became an instant classic as Taylor edged out a close split decision victory.
Boxing fans have waited over two years to see the rematch as Serrano opted to pursue the undisputed crown in the featherweight division. With all of boxing anticipating another classic, talks of top pound-for-pound honors have surfaced.
MOVE OVER CHAMP
Depending on who you ask, multi-divisional undisputed champion Claressa Shields holds the #1 spot. In this author’s opinion, she could get bumped out of that position by either Taylor or Serrano.
Taylor is coming off a rematch victory over then-undisputed champion Chantelle Cameron. That win saw her become a two-division undisputed champion. In addition, she beat a list of champions like Victoria Bustos, Rosae Volante, Anahi Sanchez, Delfine Persoon, and Christina Linardatou.
Serrano is coming off a two-round destruction of Stevie Morgan. She is a seven-division champion, competing in the sport for 15 years, the only Puerto Rican to become an undisputed champion, and one of the few in women’s boxing with a high knockout ratio. Plus, she has defeated champions such as Heather Hardy, Daniela Bermudez, Yamileth Mercado, Sarah Mahfoud, and Erika Cruz.
Both champions easily sit in the top five of any women’s pound-for-pound list. Which should justify placing the winner as the number one fighter in women’s boxing.
