Claressa Shields Would Happily Rematch Savannah Marshall in America

In her last in-ring assignment, two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (13-0, 2 KO’s) obtained a great deal of vindication. Shields accomplished this by snagging her thirteenth professional win, becoming the undisputed middleweight champion for the second time and vanquishing her longtime rival, Savannah “The Silent Assassin” Marshall (12-1, 10 KO’s).

Not only did she beat Marshall, the only person to best her in the amateur or pro ranks, T-Rex put the first blemish on her professional ledger. As one would imagine, there was a fair amount of tension and disdain between the two fighters during the build-up to their fight. Each talked their trash and both had serious reservations about having anything but sour thoughts for the other.

Yet, as is often the case, having shared the ring with one another once again, they both emerged with a new appreciation. Even before exiting the ring on fight night, Shields expressed her willingness to dance with The Silent Assassin for a third time. Clearly this sentiment has not dissipated over the past several weeks as T-Rex took to her social media to express this sentiment again.

ROUND TWO, FIGHT!!

The notion of these two going to war once again is appealing on paper and in real life. While T-Rex did earn the win, and easily won the early rounds, Marshall did stage a very compelling stand in the second half of the fight. So much so that there will be no lack of fans asking themselves, “what if Marshall uses what she now knows to fight a better battle? Would that be enough to tip the scales of victory in her favor?” Maybe, maybe not.

At the moment though, neither woman has a boxing opponent on the books, so this would be a fun next match for both. Let’s see what their two teams come up with. Just don’t be surprised if Marshall stages her second US fight against Shields during the first half of 2023!
