Yordenis Ugas and Eimantas Stanionis Avoid Purse Bid
When the WBA decided to consolidate belts, it also put potential big fights on hold. WBA welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (27-4, 12ko) was instantly affected by this decision as he was ordered to face mandatory challenger Eimantas Stanionis (13-0, 9ko). Both teams have agreed to terms, avoiding a purse bid, and will fight possibly in March or April.
Ugas shocked the world by defeating retired Filipino senator Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao back on August 22. The Cuban champion instantly called for a unification with unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence.
“The plan is to unify the titles at welterweight. Everybody says that he’s the champion, now they know who the real champion is. Errol Spence, he’s the next one on the list that I want to fight.”

However, the WBA revealed other plans by announcing the WBA champion will have to face Stanionis. Ugas was not a happy camper at all, taking to social media to vent his frustration for months.
“Thanks to everyone who supports me with this unusual situation. I’m grateful. Boxing is a disgrace sometimes.”

ACCEPTING THE INEVITABLE
Accepting that there is nothing he can do, Ugas took to social to announce his cooperation with the WBA’s decision.
The WBA did not waiver and continued to push forward, ordering a purse bid. Recently the organization announced the cancellation of the purse bid as both teams reached an agreement.
“The WBA auction between Yordenis Ugas and Eimantas Stanionis….was suspended because both sides reached an agreement to finalize the fight. The teams of both boxers communicated with the WBA sanctioning body organization to inform that the fight will take place due to everything being arranged.”

Stanionis was happy about the opportunity to fight for the title. He would, soon after, broadcast the news to fans and offer up a potential fight month.
