Shakur Stevenson Willing To Stay At 130 To Face IBF Champ Joe Cordina!

It’s no secret that unified 130-pound champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (18-0, 9KOs) is looking to make a move to the 135-pound division in the near future. While there are two other divisional champions out there, including WBA champ Roger Gutierrez, undisputed does not appear to be on the agenda for Stevenson. However, he could be looking to acquire a third title before he departs from his current division.

WILL HE STAY AND FACE JOE CORDINA?

While Fearless is clearly outgrowing the weight class, he did reveal that newly crowned IBF champion Joe Cordina’s (15-0, 9KOs) trash talk is motivating him to postpone a move up in weight. After Cordina savagely knocked out Kenichi Ogawa in two rounds back in June to win the IBF strap, Stevenson immediately called for a unification bout with Cordina.

Well the unified champion has heard his trash talk and is starting to welcome the opportunity to face him and beat him up, as he told Fight Hub TV.

“I mean, I’d like to go to 135, but you have to understand that it’s people like Joe Cordina at 130. He constantly saying my name and he keeps hitting me up on Instagram and Twitter, talking a bunch of shit. So he kinda motivating me to stay here and beat him up. So if I do stay at 130, I’ll beat Joe Cordina up and try to stop him first. But we’ll see.”

Obviously that’s a fight that has a lot of appeal for Stevenson. A win over Cordina would make him a three-belt champion. Also, if the fight took place in the U.K., that would further his popularity and notoriety to a broader fanbase. Needless to say, Stevenson has a lot of options in his current weight class and in the lightweight division.
