Katie Taylor Is Open To A Rematch With Amanda Serrano at Home!
On April 30, the boxing world was treated to a fantastic battle between undisputed 135-pound champion Katie Taylor (21-0, 6KOs) and seven-division world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (42-2-1, 30KOs). Their ten-round title fight gave everything that fight fans and pundits love about the sport; it was skills, ring IQ, powerful punches, blood, and the will and heart to win.
After the conclusion of their great fight, it was Taylor who had her hand raised as the winner by way of a split decision. Taylor, the consensus best female fighter in women’s boxing, traveled to enemy territory, overcame getting badly hurt in the middle rounds, and weathered the storm to eke out a close decision to retain her titles.
ENCORE!
When a fight of this magnitude lives up to and even surpasses initial expectations, a rematch is immediately demanded. That’s the exact case with Taylor and Serrano. A fight that was genuinely close and included back-and-forth action has a rematch being labeled a must-see!
Count Taylor in as she not only wants the rematch, but wants it in her home country of Ireland. She said the following about a rematch on the DAZN Boxing show:
“Yeah, I think a rematch would actually be brilliant. […] I mean, why not? I’m obviously up for any challenge. I want to fight the best out there, but I would actually love to fight in Ireland. I think a big fight in Croke Park, eighty thousand people. And we can actually fill out an eighty-thousand seat arena. I think that would be the only thing that could actually top what happened last week, and would be a homecoming in Ireland. “
I think it’s safe to say that everyone that loves boxing wants to see Taylor v Serrano happen and happen next. Two of the greatest female boxers ever delivered a fight that will be remembered for years and years to come. Hopefully the rematch is next. I also think most would agree that Taylor deserves the rematch to take place in Ireland.
