Is Bud Crawford Hinting That the Errol Spence Rematch Is Off?

Unified welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford hits back at one-time unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence. Bud’s recent social media post has given fans cause to believe the rematch may not happen.

On July 29, 2023, boxing fans witnessed Crawford’s destruction of The Truth en route to becoming undisputed. The boxing community went into a frenzy after Spence posted a picture of his right eye covered on January 8.

The Texan had surgery to remove cataracts from the eye and stated that was the reason for getting hit by so many punches. Boxing fans wonder what impact this will have on his career moving forward.

THE RESPONSE

Bud’s initial response, stating that fighters get their eyes checked before every fight, seems to have been targeted at the fans.

“Last, I can recall, we definitely get our eyes checked before every fight. I’m just saying. Any boxer would know that. But casual fans will say and make up anything.”

Realizing that it was Spence who made the statement, Crawford issued the following message on social media.

“I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho, because all in all, I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha.”

Crawford has revealed the rematch is taking place at junior middleweight. Yet, his last statement has boxing fans wondering if the rematch is still an option.

In fairness, The Truth gave Crawford full credit for putting on a great performance and made it clear he is not retiring, as most fans have suggested. If the rematch doesn’t take place, it will be interesting to see what will be next for the unified champion.
