Terence Crawford Shifts Focus After Jermell Charlo’s Abysmal Performance
Two-divisional undisputed champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (40-0, 31KO) has had a change of heart when it comes to fighting unified junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-2-1, 19KO). This decision came immediately after Bud witnessed Charlo’s underwhelming performance in the most significant fight of his career.
Crawford quickly shifted his attention to fighting the unified champion following a lopsided victory over Errol Spence Jr. on July 9. Charlo had an impending bout with undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 30.
Following an embarrassing performance in defeat against Canelo, Iron Man called out Crawford at junior middleweight titles. The boxing community heavily criticized Iron Man for a terrible outing and pushed back at his call.
HE IS NO LONGER ON THE HIT LIST
Bud was present at the fight and wasted no time taking to social media to make it clear that he shared the same sentiments as boxing fans.
Crawford is reportedly gearing up for a rematch with former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., scheduled for sometime in December.
The undisputed welterweight champion has stated that the rematch will take place at 147 pounds instead of 154 pounds, as Spence hasn’t informed team Crawford that he can no longer make the weight. Boxing fans are not particularly eager to see a rematch, given how Bud thoroughly dominated his rival in the first fight.
However, there remains a possibility that the Nebraskan may end up facing the Texas unified champion. Charlo could potentially regain the undisputed crown by defeating the winner between WBO Champion Tim Tszyu and Brian Mendoza. This opportunity to become a three-divisional undisputed champion might be enough to persuade Crawford to reconsider his stance.
