Tevin Farmer vs Mickey Bey Hit BLK Prime
This time is the charm! Former IBF champions Tevin Farmer (30-5-1, 6KO) and Mickey Bey (23-3-1, 11KO) have scheduled their bout for a third time. The match-up will take place on the under-card of Adrien Broner’s return against Ivan Redkach February 18, 2023 on BLK Prime.
The last time the two were to meet was in August, but the bout did not happen due to bizarre circumstances. Midway into the card, Farmer and Bey took to Instagram to announce they were leaving the arena. Both men claimed the promoters did not fulfill their financial obligations and urged fans to cancel their payment of the PPV event.
After proposed venues in Africa and Dubai, then a failed attempt at a main event slot in Arizona, the fight is now on.
BETTER ON THE UNDER-CARD
Farmer (32) was last seen losing his junior lightweight title to Joseph “JoJo” Diaz in January 2020. This would be the end of a decent string of four title defenses. Shortly afterwards, his contract with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN expired and was not renewed. A rematch with Diaz and a prizefight with three-time junior lightweight champion Gervonta Davis were discussed. However, neither materialized.
Bey has been out of the ring since dropping a split-decision to former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr in December 2019. At that time, the 39 year-old only fought twice in three years since losing his lightweight title to Rances Barthelemy in 2016. Most of his time outside of the ring has been dedicated to training up and coming fighters.
To be honest, this bout is best suited on the under-card of a main event. Both men are on major layoffs and nowhere near their primes. The cards prior had the fight as the headliner of PPV events. Not quite sure how that would have panned out numbers-wise, but on paper, this is definitely not “main event” material!
