Turki Alalshikh Has Other Plans For Terence Crawford
After careful consideration, Turki Alalshikh has decided to forgo trying to make a fight featuring unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs four-division champion Terence “Bud” Crawford.
After taking the WBA junior middleweight title away from Israel Madrimov, Crawford (41-0, 31KO) made it clear a fight with Canelo (61-2-2, 39KO) could happen for the right price. Alalshikh was adamant about making Bud versus Canelo a reality when asked about the possibility of the fight.
Canelo has made it clear on several occasions that a fight with Bud wouldn’t happen. The Mexican believed fans wouldn’t give him credit for the victory. Considering Alalshikh has shown to have both the money and resources, fans thought Alvarez would fold to the pressure.
CHANGE OF PLANS
It seems that making the fight is no longer a priority for the Saudi Arabian. The boxing community is buzzing following a post by Alalshikh to the boxing public regarding plans for Crawford.
After watching how Crawford struggled against Madrimov, several fans and pundits weren’t so enthused about seeing him face Canelo. This change by Alalshikh could open the door to two possibilities.
A push for the undisputed crown in the junior middleweight division could be in order. This author has stated in the past that fighting unified champion Sebastian Fundora was the next plausible option.
There is a fight that fans would like to see, and that’s Crawford versus IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Alalshikh, at one point, was extremely interested in seeing them fight. With Canelo no longer on the table, perhaps the Saudi power player will revisit making the fight.
