Danielito Zorrilla seeking championship glory following victory over Pablo Cesar Cano
Rising junior welterweight Danielito “El Zorro” Zorrilla (15-0, 11ko) is currently number thirteen by the WBO and is under the promotional banner of Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions. He won a bronze medal in the Pan American championships and Central American games. He is viewed by many to carry out the tradition of Puerto Rican fighters in becoming a future world champion.
Pablo Cesar Cano (33-7-1, 23ko) is coming into this fight looking to play spoiler. The veteran fighter is ranked number seven by the WBC, and his career is filled with ups and downs. However, he got the biggest win of his career defeating three-division champion Jorge Linares back in 2019. As a former world title challenger, the elder fighter will be using all of the tools in the toolbox on the young prospect.
THE BODY SHOT SEALED IT ALL
In the classic Puerto Rican versus Mexican rivalry, these two fighters were supposed to face each other on August 14. They were going to be the undercard of Vergil Ortiz Jr taking on former title challenger Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

Cano, despite being out of the ring since 2019, came out being the aggressor showing no signs of ring rust. The elder fighter was coming forward and landing the jab along with a solid right-hand. Zorrilla was being patient, downloading the information and responded with a solid left hook to the body. The body language of Cano shifted slightly before returning fire until the sound of the bell.
In the second round, El Zorro knew the body was going to be the money punch. After landing the solid overhand right, he landed a perfect left hook to the liver with pinpoint accuracy. Cano’s body language changed trying to overcome the pain but, after a seven-second delay, he went down.
The pain was so intense that he got back up only to go back down while the referee was administrating the count. Moreover, he spits out the mouthpiece, prompting the referee to halt the fight after reaching the count of ten.
TEST PASSED AND LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE
Zorrilla, with this impressive victory, went from prospect to contender in a matter of minutes. This is the type of performance that signals he is ready for the next level. Wins like this will always have fans wanting to see more.
In the post-fight interview, the Puerto Rican fighter put the entire division on notice.
“I am not playing around. To me, it is all about being a champ. So whoever wants to step up, I am here. I am in this to win the championships and to represent properly.”
