Agit Kabayel Defeats Evgenios Lazaridis
While performing in the main event of Top Rank’s ESPN telecast, heavyweight Agit Kabayel (20-0, 13 KO’s) won a clear unanimous decision victory over Evgenios “Achilles” Lazaridis (16-3, 10 KO’s).
The bout began at a lively pace and maintained that tempo for the first couple of rounds. During that time, for the better part of it, Kabayel was doing most of the walking forward. Yet, both men were landing punches with regularity. And to their credit, both boxers threw to the head and body fairly evenly.
With the coming of the third period there was a mild, but noticeable, change in the action. Kabayel found a regular home for a lead jab to the body and overhand right to the head. To make matters worse, not only did his German antagonist finding greater offensive success, his own energy levels appeared to be waning.
By the sixth period, Lazaridis carried himself as if his energy gauge hit zero. This stood in stark contrast to Kabayel, who was bouncing on his toes and clearly having a good time. Outside of constantly backing up, holding his mouth open and absorbing punishment, Achilles was not doing much of anything.
In fact, after suffering his drop in vigor, the prizefight never changed gears again. The German pugilist was able to leisurely walk Achilles back while taking a minimal amount of return fire. At the conclusion of ten rounds, Agit Kabayel was awarded a wide unanimous decision win by the judges.
