Former Undisputed Champion Alan Minter Passes Away

Former undisputed middleweight champion Alan “Boom Boom” Minter (39-9, 23KOs) has passed away at the age of 69 after a bout with cancer.

An Olympic Bronze medalist at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, as a light middleweight. After a successful run as an amateur he would turn pro, at first winning European and British titles.

The dream of becoming a world champion would come true when he defeated Vito Antuofermo by spilt decision to win the WBA, WBC and Ring magazine middleweight titles. He showed the win was not a fluke by following up with a knockout victory in the immediate rematch.

The biggest fight of his career would come next. After only defending his title once, he lost his undisputed status by third round knockout to Hall of Fame inductee “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler.

Although he would only fight three more times before retiring in 1981, he is still remembered as a blood & guts fighter that defied odds to reach the top.

3kingsboxing would like to extend our sincerest condolences to his family.

R.I.P champ!
