Alexis Rocha To Return With Much to Prove After Knockout Loss

In the sport of boxing, it’s detrimental enough to lose all on its own, let alone thoroughly dominated. However, worst of all is being bullied then stopped. Yet, this was exactly the fate suffered by welterweight boxer Alexis “Lex” Rocha (23-2, 15 KO’s), who tested his might against Giovani “Gallo De Oro” Santillan (32-0, 17 KO’s). Despite entering the contest as the heavy favorite, Rocha found himself being repeatedly socked in the face by an aggressive and focused Santillan.

The abuse culminated in two fifth round knockdowns and a third fight-ending trip to the canvas in the sixth. Naturally, in the aftermath, Lex expressed his disappointment with how the bout turned out and vowed to return new and improved.

“I’m really down right now, but I’m doing the best I could to give you guys an interview right now and I appreciate all you guys. You guys are what makes me a better person. I won’t be gone long . . . that’s what’s tough, knowing that I brought a big crowd, losing in front of a big crowd; It’s tough!”

WHAT ROCHA WILL APPEAR NEXT?

There is no question that Rocha’s stock will plummet to some degree from his previous #1 (WBO), #10 (IBF), #10 (WBC) and #12 (WBA) standing. He managed to put three years and seven victories in between his premiere professional loss to Rashidi Ellis back on October 30, 2020 and his current setback. In that affair however, Lex escaped with a fairly close, unanimous points loss.

Now we will have to wait and see how Rocha mentally and physically rebounds from the merciless drubbing that he endured. Oftentimes, after the house fighter is bloodily undressed on such a big stage, they return to the ring a bit gun-shy. Then there are the Gabe Rosado’s and Manny Pacquiao’s who keep the same front-foot energy no matter how many times they lose.

So only time will tell what version of Alexis Rocha will next step in the ring. Will he be revitalized and sharper than ever? Or, will he second guess his instincts in the ring and demonstrate untended mental scars from the tussle with Santillan? No matter what takes place, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
