Carlos Adames Strikes a Nerve with Janibek Alimkhanuly!
Unified middleweight champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly (15-0, 7KO) responded with a fierce retort to WBC Interim titlist Carlos Adames (23-1, 18KO), setting the stage for a possible showdown.
Out of the blue, Adames decided to stir the pot and provoke Alimkhanuly. The unified champion, never one to shy away from a response, made it crystal clear that the WBC Interim titlist is an easy opponent.
In fairness, Adames wasn’t stopped as a junior middleweight. However, he did suffer his first career defeat at the hands of Patrick Teixeira in 2019. However, he rebounded and delivered a ninth-round stoppage victory over then-unified junior middleweight champion Julian Williams on June 24.
Qazaq Style made a statement with a sixth-round knockout, wresting the IBF title from Vincenzo Gualtieri on October 14. This victory not only crowned the Kazakhstani as a unified champion, but also solidified his position as the man to beat in the division.
WBA Regular champion Erislandy Lara is currently eyeing fights with Danny Garcia. Meanwhile, WBC champion Jermall Charlo appears in no hurry to face Alimkhanuly. So, a showdown between the unified champion and Adames is an enticing prospect. The fact that Adames used to fight under the Top Rank banner adds an intriguing backstory to this potential matchup.
