Artur Beterbiev’s Homecoming Fight Against Adam Deines Has Been Postponed
A disturbing trend of boxers being afflicted with coronavirus has reared its ugly head once again. This time, the latest one to be stricken with the virus is unified IBF/WBC World Light Heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs).
The 35-year-old from Khasavyurt, Russia, announced on December 28 on his Instagram page he tested positive for the virus. Beterbiev was to defend the unified world titles against Adam Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs) on January 30, 2021 in Moscow, Russia.
During his announcement, the champ said he hopes to recover as quickly as possible. He also asked his fans for their understanding and support.
Given the latest discovery, it means the entire card has been postponed. What must be disappointing to Beterbiev is that this upcoming fight was to be his grand homecoming.
Relocating to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to begin his professional career, Beterbiev is regarded by many as the best in the world at 175-pounds. He was looking forward to putting on a show in front of his home country.
Now that opportunity will have to wait. There has been no announcement from his representatives if or when the card will be rescheduled. Stay tuned to 3KingsBoxing for further updates on this developing story.
