Bob Arum says Crawford could fight Pacquiao or Brook
Legendary Promoter/Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum is always ahead of the game on the chessboard and in the sport of boxing. Moreover, for nearly five decades, the Top Rank banner has been able to maintain being the standard-bearer for the sport.
The 88-year-old New York promoter is coming off of arguably the highest moment in boxing during 2020. Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21KO) captured the Ring Magazine and WBC championships by defeating former champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41KO) in brutal fashion on February 22 at the MGM Grand.
Arum is never in rest mode and is always looking to make big fights. In an interview with TalkBox Boxing Podcast, he spoke highly of the cooperation from the Premier Boxing Champions brand and Fox network. In addition, he spoke on major plans for WBO Welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27KO).
“We couldn’t have had better partners. PBC and Fox, everybody worked hard together. There was no one side or the other side, we were all in it together.
We are working on Terence’s fight, which will be in June or latest beginning in July. There are a couple of options for Terence Crawford. We are exploring a Pacquiao fight and if that can’t happen, we’re exploring a fight against Kell Brook.”
The interesting part is both of those options are very doable, especially when you consider that WBA champion Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39ko) is signed with adviser Al Haymon. Furthermore, given the recent groundwork guidelines, a fight with PBC and Fox brand could provide another big money PPV fight featuring a unification.
The WBO champion has expressed wanting a fight with the eight-divisional champion in the past. A fight with Kell Brook (39-2, 27KO) is also easy to make. The former IBF welterweight champion is inked to British promoter Eddie Hearn.
The working relationship between both Arum and Hearn is well-documented when it comes to making meaningful bouts. Moreover, either fighter would finally give the Nebraska champion a top name added to his resume.
Arum is clicking on all cylinders and this is only the beginning of more things to come in 2020.
