Bob Arum talks being in the Bubble
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who has spear-headed boxing’s return from the COVID-19 pandemic temporary work stoppage, has admitted that it’s been anything but smooth.
In an interview with iFL TV, he revealed that it’s actually been a very wearing experience.
“Funny enough, it is very wearing you know. You get here early in the morning, like I got here at 8 o’clock in the morning, get tested by 1 o’clock; they can tell me that I’m negative, so I stay in my room until 2 o’clock and then come down to the office here that Top Rank maintains in the convention area. So really it’s a full day. It goes from, I leave the house at 7:30 in the morning to get to the MGM, and I don’t get home until 8:30, 8:45 in the evening. So it’s a long day.”
Obviously very taxing, this is the new normal at least for the foreseeable future. The already-daunting task of putting on fights has only gotten tougher due to so many new health protocols that have to be followed.
Even with a few fighters testing positive resulting in postponement of fights, Top Rank has done an excellent job of giving fight fans fights, even if they’re aren’t the mouthwatering match-ups they crave. You have to start somewhere and that is exactly what they’re doing.
