Terence Crawford Tells Spence Get In Line On Facing Fundora
Unified welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (40-0, 31KO) issued a message to one-time unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. He basically told his former foe to pump the brakes on trying to fight unified junior middleweight champion Sebastian “The Towering Infermo” Fundora next.
The boxing world is buzzing over the bloodbath showdown that saw The Towering Inferno (21-1-1, 13KO) box the titles away from Tim Tszyu. Immediately following the victory, fans were introduced to the unified champion’s possible next opponent in The Truth.
Spence (28-1, 22KO) had been campaigning on social media about wanting the winner.
So, fans shouldn’t have been surprised he was ushered in the ring to do a promo-type face-off with Fundora.
NOT SO FAST
Realizing Spence is trying to take his spot, Bud jumped on social media with a reality check for the Texan.
In February, WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel informed the boxing community Crawford was looking to make a move. Per the organization’s rules, any champion in a lower division can move up and skip the line. The boxing news cycle reported that the Nebraskan has exercised his rights by petitioning for the mandatory position.
Typically, the WBO gives the winner 180 days to make the fight happen. As of the writing of this article, the WBO has not made an official ruling on the matter.
Bud hasn’t been in the ring since defeating Spence to become a two-divisional undisputed champion in July 2023. He was sidelined for the remainder of the year, waiting for the rematch. After learning of The Truth’s surgery to remove cataracts from his eye, Crawford informed the fans that the rematch wasn’t going to happen.
With both fighters looking to make their mark in a new division it’s going to interesting to see how things play out over the next couple of months.
