Canelo Alvarez Tells Hopefuls to Hold a Tournament Where He Fights the Winner
The biggest money fight in boxing is against undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KO’s). The Mexican superstar is easily the face of boxing and holds the winning lottery ticket for anyone looking for retirement money. However, he wants all the guys calling his name to fight each other, with the winner getting a fight against him.
The boxing community had mixed reactions after news dropped that he would be facing WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KO’s), and a trilogy with IBF middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (41-1-1, 38 KO’s). This was after turning down an even more lucrative offer to fight WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo and two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez.
A LONG LINE OF CHALLENGERS
In being fair, it would be impossible for Alvarez to fight all the fighters mentioning his name. The list of fighters calling for the Mexican mega-star is endless. Would-be challengers range from middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade to light heavyweight champions Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr.
In an interview with ESNews, Canelo had a message for all the fighters mentioning his name.
“Why don’t they fight each other? They need it. This year I’m busy.”
During intermission for Roman Gonzalez versus Julio Cesar Martinez, Alvarez was in attendance to support Martinez. Canelo doubled down on everyone fighting each other for a big payday.
“I know they want the payday, right? They want the payday. I really don’t understand why they don’t fight each other. They need to fight each other, and then I fight the winner of all of them. I don’t fucking care.”
