David Morrell wins WBA interim super middleweight title!

In just his third fight as a pro, David Morrell Jr (3-0, 2KOs) put on a extremely impressive performance against solid contender Lennox Allen (22-1-1, 14KOs) in his first twelve round fight.

The Cuban standout was impressive from the moment the bell rang. Both southpaws came out looking for a chess match, baiting each other into a big counter shot. Morrell would be the one to open up as he would start to throw uppercuts and overhand hooks to dishevel the composure of his opponent.

Allen did come back with some nice counter right hooks and body shots when the Cuban would open up. This made for a very competitive fight and fans were excited to see how the young prospect would adjust.

He did just that!

The second half of the fight was all Morrell as he completely out-fought and outboxed Allen. Using more than just the kitchen sink, the power shots were clearly taking it’s toll on the 35 year-old contender. To Allen’s credit, although he took some big shots, he stayed on his feet throughout.

In the end, Morrell would be declared the winner by way of a unanimous decision. The scores were 118-110, 119-108 and 120-108 as he is now the interim WBA super middleweight champion! With only three fights, he can put forth an argument to be considered for a fight against WBA super champion Callum Smith.

Or at least a top level contender!

At 22 years-young, the Cuban has a bright future ahead of him as he continues to improve and adjust to the pro game.
