De La Hoya Says Tank Davis’ Sentencing Won’t Affect Ryan Garcia Fight
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is relieved that multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ (28-0, 26KO) recent guilty plea sentencing will not derail the upcoming showdown with Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19KO) on April 15.
The boxing news cycle went into hyperdrive earlier today after the Baltimore power-puncher pled guilty to a hit-and-run car crash in 2020. Boxing fans quickly wondered if the sentencing would interfere with the Garcia showdown. It is safe to say it will not, as Davis’ sentencing is set for May 5.
OSCAR DE LA HOYA IS PLEASED
During an interview with the media, De La Hoya expressed a feeling of relief.
“His sentencing is May 5. So, he’s all clear, he’s all clear. He can now focus and train and be ready on April 15. This is actually good news. This is actually great news for everyone involved in boxing and for everyone involved in the fight.”
The negotiation process has been highly publicized by De La Hoya, who has been extremely vocal on social media. In his most recent post concerning the fight, the Golden Boy boss claimed that more issues still need ironing out after earlier claiming the rematch clause was the only issue left.
Nonetheless, boxing fans are praying that sooner rather than later, a deal gets done. Even though Tank’s return to court for sentencing isn’t until May 5, there is a sense of urgency to make the fight happen before time runs out.
