Where Will Seniesa Estrada Go Following Split from Golden Boy Promotions?

One moment the relationship between a fighter and promoter can seem copacetic. The next minute, something happens and things fall apart. That is now the case regarding the reigning WBA strawweight champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (22-0, 9 KOs) and Golden Boy Promotions.

During an interview with source The PrizeFighters, Estrada’s father, Joe Estrada, revealed
that the relationship between the two is no more. Golden Boy has released her from her contract. This is how the dad explained what went wrong.

“We tried everything; She just wanted what she felt she deserved.”

IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES

It has been no secret within boxing circles there’s been a divide between the fighter and her former
promoter. The crux of their issues stems from Estrada wanting to renegotiate her contract.

Estrada has yet to fight in 2022 after what was a stellar 2021. The 29-year-old fought three times
that year. In March 2021, she scored a decision over previously long-reigning champion Anabel Ortiz to win the WBA 105-pound strap. That was followed by a unanimous decision win over Tenkai Tsunami to capture the WBO junior flyweight title in July of that year.

In December 2021, Estrada returned to 105, defending the WBA belt with a sensational fourth-round
knockout over Maria Micheo Santizo. Super Bad was so impressive that the pride of East Los Angeles was 3Kings Boxing’s 2021’s Women’s Fighter of the Year.

But given the split with Golden Boy, it’s unknown when she will fight again. The champ was to return
to the ring on August 6 in a rematch with Ortiz. Now that bout is in the air.

THE FUTURE

With her immense skill and power, Estrada is one of the elite female fighters in the world. She is
also quite marketable outside of the ring with endorsement deals with Ladder supplement company and RVCA Sports clothing.

Matchroom Boxing has heavily invested in women’s boxing. Undisputed women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor, undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill, undisputed super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn, unified 140-pound champion Chantelle Cameron, and WBC 130-pound champ are already on what is a loaded roster. Adding Estrada would even further boost their standing.

Top Rank’s most prominent female fighter is current unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer,
who is set to face Baumgardner on September 10. Given their history of promoting fighters, they could take her career to the next level.

Boxxer has signed Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall. The two are scheduled to fight in a grudge match on September 10 for undisputed status at 160. One would think they would be interested in signing Estrada as well.

This is a story to keep an eye on as suddenly “Super Bad” has become one of the hottest commodities
in women’s boxing. It will be interesting to see what her next move will be. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for more updates on this developing story.
