Erickson Lubin vs Luis Arias Signed for June 24

After more than one year on the sideline, super welterweight boxer Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (24-2, 17 KO’s) will slide back in the ring on June 24, according to social media buzz. For his return bout, the southpaw Floridian will look to test his might against Luis Arias (20-3-1, 9 KO’s). In this contest, Lubin, 27, will be aiming to hop back in the win column having suffered the second loss of his career to WBC Interim 154-pound champion Sebastian Fundora in his last prizefight.

The loss was something of a bittersweet affair. This is because although he lost a meaningful WBC Interim title fight, it was an extremely entertaining fight that most certainly earned him some new fans. While he may be appreciative of the new supporters, there is no doubt The Hammer would have preferred to snag the victory.

STILL SHOOTING FOR THE TOP

In his premiere defeat, the Floridian was toppled by undisputed 154-pound champion Jermell Charlo. Had he beaten Fundora, he would have been in prime position to challenge Charlo again. It took The Hammer five years and six fights to earn that interim title shot. Now ranked #5 (WBC), Lubin hopes to begin his slow crawl back up the rankings.

For his part, Arias, 32, is looking to string together a pair of back-to-back victories. This is a feat that he has not accomplished since 2017. Since then, Arias has compiled a less than impressive record of 2-3-1. Of his pair of victories, by far the most impressive was his surprise win over former unified super welterweight champion Jarrett Hurd.

At the time that he and Lubin go to war, Arias will have been out of action for one calendar year himself with his last contest, against Jimmy Williams, being staged on June 28, 2022. With a win, Arias will hope to get acknowledged in any of the four major sanctioning bodies’ top 15 rankings.
