Juan Francisco Estrada Promises To Win Jesse Rodriguez Rematch
Multi-divisional champion “El Gallo” Juan Francisco Estrada (44-4, 28KO) isn’t going to ride off into the sunset without getting revenge against WBC super flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez. El Gallo quickly called for the rematch following their match on June 29.
The boxing public continues to talk about the performances of both, Bam and El Gallo. Estrada got up off the canvas and showed the heart of a legendary fighter by dropping Rodriguez later in the fight. Then out of nowhere, Bam landed a body shot that ended the fight. The crowd gave both men a standing ovation.
I’ll WIN NEXT TIME
In the post-fight interview, it was revealed there was a rematch clause and Estrada didn’t hesitate to call for the rematch.
“I know the mistake I made in there, and I want the rematch. What I need to do more in the next fight is to box a little bit more . . . I made errors in this fight, and I want to put them right in the second one.”
“It’s in the contract. So we’ll take the rematch and there’s no doubt we’ll win that rematch.” (via Translation)
A SOLID TRACK RECORD
Estrada has a solid track record of bouncing back and winning rematches. He has suffered losses to champions Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, and Roman Gonzalez. The Mexican defeated all of them in the rematch, including a recent trilogy with Gonzalez.
Yet, Estrada may not be able to pull off a victory, as the Texan is younger, stronger, faster, and is fighting on another level. There is a saying that an old fighter has one last great fight left in him. However, it’s going to be hard for El Gallo this time around.
The 34-year-old may have hit the end of the road as Father Time could play a factor in the rematch.
