Frank Martin Breaks Silence on Failed Stevenson Fight

Over the past few days, the boxing world has been buzzing discussing the would-be motives of lightweight contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (18-0, 12 KO’s). This is because rather than following through with a showdown against two-division champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KO’s), he suddenly and rather mysteriously withdrew. Yet, the implosion of the fight was magnified by the fact that Team Martin provided no rationale as to why they were not moving forward.

Apparently, tired of hearing the chants and accusation of cowardice, The Ghost has taken to his social media to defend himself. Unfortunately, he did not clear up or smooth out anything.

BUT WHY THOUGH?!

Since Martin opted not to really add anything of substance to the situation, the boxing public is left alone with the products of their own imaginations. The two leading logical theories available that would save The Ghost face are one – he secured a bigger fight, or, two – he was injured. If injury, medical malady or mental instability is at the root of the failed fight, then it would be best just to say so.

If Martin can land a fight with, for example, Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, then a great deal of heat would be lifted. So perhaps a big fight announcement is forthcoming. Maybe The Ghost follows the lead of undisputed 154-pound undisputed champion Jermell Charlo and goes up in weight to find his next challenge. All of those would be pleasing outcomes that most could easily accept. Yet, again, since Martin chose to leave the world in the dark, we still have to wait on the real reason we were slipped this pair of trick dice.
