Frank Martin Eyes the Top of the Lightweight Division!
Rising lightweight contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (15-0, 11KOs) will return to the ring on June 18 against Ricardo “El Cientifico” Nunez (23-3, 21KOs). Ranked #14 in the WBA, The Ghost is ready for the big names in the division.
While he’s not overlooking Nunez, a former world title challenger, he let it be known after this fight he wants the top names at 135.
While speaking on the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, he talked about how his development as a fighter was going. He also said he wants the best his division has to offer.
“Development, I feel like I’m developing well. I feel like I’m ready for all the top guys. After this fight right here, they might as well gone ahead and give me a seat at the table with them. I feel like the development good. I got the best trainer in the business, so you know everything good.”
INGREDIENTS FOR SUCCESS
Martin, who’s only fifteen fights into his pro career, has been very impressive each time he stepped in the ring. While he may be two or three fights away from challenging for a world title, he has all the ingredients to become a world champion. His power, speed, athleticism and boxing ability will pose many problems for future opponents. However, one must caution that he needs to continue grow and get experience before he’s thrown into the ring against proven champions and former champions.
With Derrick James leading the way as his trainer, it’s only a matter of time before he’s in with the top 10 guys at 135. First things first is handling business against a tough, hard-hitting Nunez. His confidence shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as he called out newly undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney out back in January.
