Tyson Fury: It’s An Easy Fight

Over the past number of years, the state of Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury’s (29-0-1, 20 KO’s) mental health has remained a tremendously large issue. Fury has made no attempt to hide his struggles with weight, chemical dependency, depression and suicidal thoughts. Not only has he been rather candid on these topics, he openly admits that he still struggles with a few of these items.

Yet, even while continuing his on-going battle with these personal leviathans, the Gypsy King assures the public that he is in good-spirits and is rather carefree heading into his highly anticipated rematch with WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KO’s) . The greater bulk of this confidence stems from how well he did in their first encounter.

POOR PREPARATION

When reflecting back on the premiere dust-up, Fury remains astonished at the overall lack of preparation he had undergone for a fight of that magnitude.

“All I have to be is a little bit sharper than I was before, and I will be. My body is different and I’ve had more time to prepare. Don’t forget I had a shocking performance over Sefer [Seferi], a sparring session over [Francisco] Pianeta and then jumped in with the supposedly the biggest, baddest heavyweight out there after only them two pathetic performances. So, how good could I have been, really?

And I still basically kicked his ass. So yeah, I think it’s an easy fight anyway. Last fight was a really easy fight. I’ve said it many, many times, I think the Deontay Wilder fight was up there with some of my easiest twelve round fights. Apart from the knockdowns obviously, I’ve had a lot tougher fights. It wasn’t tough, it wasn’t grueling, there wasn’t no second guessing myself. It was no mental stuff in there, it was just straight forward me boxing and him trying to hit me, that was it.”

To add more fuel to his internal fire, Fury also states that not only did he have poor competition before Wilder, he also had a subpar camp leading in the major scrap.

“I had a terrible training camp for the fight. The sparring was terrible, I wasn’t good in sparring. It was up in Big Bear, [I] couldn’t breathe at all, come down to Hollywood to make camp. It was just a dreadful camp and even that didn’t hold me. I went in there super confident and did what I have to do.”

NO BOOGEYMEN HERE

From this point of view, there is little wonder why Fury is brimming with confidence and forecasting a dramatic knockout victory. Having heard of this, it also should not be shocking that the Gypsy King claims to have zero fear or apprehension over facing the Bronze Bomber one more time.

“Wilder is not a scary person to me. Wilder is another bum with a pair of boxing gloves on, really that’s it. I’ve beat plenty of men like Deontay Wilder in me career and in me life. If he wanted to I’d take him outside and give him a good hiding too for as long as he wants! To me, it’s just a fight, I’ve been brought up fighting.

And with that many things thrown at me, punches and bricks and whatever else over the years, it’s really not a frightening experience at all.”

Well, Fury is certainly talking the talk! Now all he has to do is deliver on February 22 in Las Vegas. Thankfully for the fans the ultimate outcome is just around the corner!
