Kid Galahad Forces Team Marrero to Toss in the Towel!

A seriously focused and intense Kid Galahad (27-1, 16 KO’s) forces Claudio “The Matrix” Marrero’s (24-4, 17 KO’s) corner to throw in the towel after 8 completed rounds. It was an impressive victory to win the final title eliminator to challenge for the IBF world featherweight title held by Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington (30-0, 7 KO’s).

With the win Galahad is now Warrington’s mandatory….AGAIN!

From the very outset of the fight, it was clear that Galahad was there to make a statement. With the clang of the opening bell the Sheffield native went straight after his opponent with a sharp jab and hard body shots.

When in close, Galahad fought like the UK version of Shawn Porter, partly by tying him up, punching with his free hand and using his head, feet and elbows to rough up Marrero by any means necessary.

Referee Howard Foster would warn Galahad for his dirty tactics on three separate occasions during the first period alone. At times, the obviously agitated Matrix would flurry with a number of menacing power punches. Typically these shots came in the form of hooks to the head and body, although he did land some none had the desired effect of changing the course of the round.

The rough and tumble bout persisted through the first three rounds, yet in the fourth Galahad seemed to calm down a bit fought more consistently from distance. Even after abandoning his bullying style of fight Marrero still had few answers and remained a hair to slow.

With the coming of the seventh period it was apparent that now Marrero was beginning to unravel. In the final minute of the round, two stiff lefts and a left hook seriously buzzed the Matrix. With the final bell Marrero was beat up, had his nose bloodied and appeared to have no answers.

While he did not land anything devastating, Galahad easily out boxed and continued to take his opponent apart piece by piece in the eighth. After returning to his stool, Team Marrero decided to halt the match before the start of the ninth round.

Now a potential rematch is order with Warrington. Galahad has maintained since suffering his first defeat to Warrington in September 2019 by split decision that he won that fight. He has been petitioning for a rematch and may get one ordered.

However, what should be noted is the fact that Warrington is sitting on a deal to unify with WBO champion Shakur Stevenson in May. Stevenson will be taking on Miguel Marriaga on March 14. If victorious, he and Warrington have agreed to a unification.

This could cause Galahad to wait until the winner of that fight is sorted out. This story will get interesting so stay tuned into 3kingsboxing.com for the latest updates.
