Galal Yafai Stops Agustin Gauto in Round Eight
UK flyweight pugilist Galal Yafai (7-0, 5 KO’s) had to dig deep to snag an eighth round TKO victory over tough Agustin “El Avion” Gauto (21-2, 15 KO’s). For the better part of it, Yafai was able to largely dictate the pace of the match with his size and volume. Yet, right from the start each man roared out of their corners tossing hard leather.
Yafai successfully gunned El Avion down with long rifle jabs and straight punches when operating on the outside. As the duel wore on however, Gauto was able to get in and remain in the pocket using head movement that became very fluid in spots. While on the inside, Gauto was extremely successful blasting Yafai with a small feast of thumping left hooks to the head and body.
Aside from his determined foe, Yafai also had to contend with a cut over his left eye. The UK boxer suffered a gash in the sixth round as the result of an accidental headbutt. Despite his adversity in the battle, Yafai was able to hurt El Avion in the eighth round. While he never went down, Gauto essentially stopped fighting, got on his bike and began eating a bevy of unanswered shots.
After getting hammered with the same 1-2 combination about four times consecutively, referee Raul Caiz Jr. jumped in to save Gauto from any further damage.
