Gilberto Ramirez Wants the Undisputed Crown at Cruiserweight

Following his latest professional showdown, cruiserweight boxer Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (46-1, 30 KO’s) is now a world champion. After soundly beating Arsen Goulamirian (27-1, 19 KO’s), Zurdo collected his super WBA cruiserweight title. The loss to Ramirez was actually the first blemish on Goulamirian’s professional ledger. Next on the agenda for Ramirez could be a trek to become undisputed cruiserweight champion.

Obviously, this was a great win for Ramirez who entered the duel just one match removed from his own sole professional defeat. In his case, Zurdo was taken to task by super WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Now that he’s moved up in weight, and become champion, Ramirez can begin washing the foul taste of that loss from his mouth.

WHO’S NEXT?!

Naturally, many will wonder what the 32-year-old Mexican champion wants to do next. According to him, Ramirez is looking to unify all the titles.

“I had to continue, even from my loss. Everyone thought, ‘he’s done,’ but I am not done yet. I wanted to be a champion and now I am a champion. I want to be a legend, I want to be a cruiserweight undisputed world champion and I will prove myself that I can!”

Armed with this ambition, there are only two fighters at the moment that Ramirez needs to be concerned about. Namely, IBF champion Chris Billam-Smith and WBC champion Noel Mikaelian. The IBF title is currently vacant.

For what it’s worth, neither Billam-Smith nor Mikaelian have fought this year. Yet, Billam-Smith is looking to rematch Richard Riakporhe. Meanwhile, it doesn’t appear that Mikaelian has an upcoming dance partner, so perhaps that is who Zurdo should focus his attention on. In any case, stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for all things related to the sweet science!
