Floyd Mayweather Offers Uplifting Words to Rolly Romero

Hall of Fame inductee Floyd Mayweather Jr. sent a message of encouragement to one-time WBA junior welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-2, 13KO) In addition, he advised Rolly to hold his head up high.

On March 30, Romero suffered a second devastating knockout defeat at the hands of Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz. The fighter from Las Vegas passed up a fight with Ryan Garcia, claiming a fight with Pitbull was a tougher battle. He had no idea how right he was considering the Mexican battered him from the opening bell until the stoppage.

By now, we know how this goes; The internet jumped all over the former champion as fighters took turns criticizing his performance.

Mayweather, on the other hand, took a moment to remind Romero of his accomplishments despite not having much of an amateur career.

CAN HE BOUNCE BACK?

Mayweather remembers those days Rolly was giving people trouble in sparring sessions at the Mayweather Boxing Gym. Furthermore, he went on to sign the hard puncher from Las Vegas and started his career in the professional ranks in 2016.

So, after suffering another defeat by knockout, the question is: can he come back? Like him or not, the thing about Rolly is he’s entertaining and is willing to fight anyone. His trash-talking can get him into trouble but that’s part of the sport.

When looking at the division, he can still fight some of the guys in the lower tier. But first, he needs more time with trainer Ismael Salas so they can work on his footwork, jab, defense, and boxing ability.

Romero needs to refocus, stay off social media, and live in the gym. In boxing anything, can happen. One solid victory can put him right back in the mix.
