Gennady Golovkin splits from longtime trainer!

Former unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has decided to part ways with his trainer Abel Sanchez.

This comes after a long and successful run. The Kazakh fighter, who is 0-1-1 in his last two fights is scheduled to face undefeated Canadian Steve Rolls in his DAZN debut June 8.

This will be the first time since his US debut in 2012 against Grzegorz Proksa the former champion will be without Sanchez in his corner.

This news comes as a shocker since over the last few months, many within the media expected the major change to his team to involve Tom Loeffler. The 360 promotions head even had to respond over social media claiming there had been no indication from Golovkin that he would be removed as his promoter.

Sanchez told Sports Illustrated the reason for this change came down to money! He also mentioned he was insulted by the new offer made to him to resume his duties as head trainer.

This marks the second fighter to recently remove Sanchez as their trainer. The first is heavyweight prospect Joe Joyce who hired popular UK trainer Adam Booth in his place.

As for now, there’s no front runner for the vacancy. With potential fights looming against Demetrius Andrade, Canelo Alvarez, and possibly Jermall Charlo, this could be a huge mistake or a much needed breath of fresh air.

Golovkin is in the fall of his career so a move like this could help to preserve his career. That is, if he can make some improvements.
