Whos Win The Rematch: Devin Haney or George Kambosos?
On October 15, undisputed 135-pound champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (28-0, 15KOs) will take on former unified lightweight champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-1, 10KOs). This bout will be the sequel to their initial battle that took place on June 4. Like the first fight, the second one will be taking place in the backyard of Kambosos in Australia.
FIRST FIGHT RECAP!
Going into the first fight, Haney was the heavy favorite. Prior to entering the ring, there were concerns about Haney fighting in the Australian’s backyard. However, he immediately answered those questions. His performance was brilliant as he handcuffed Ferocious with his jab. While the action was scarce, he clearly dominated the fight.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE REMATCH?
There has been a different tone set by both men leading up to this rematch. The normally talkative and confident Kambosos have been extremely quiet. This is the exact opposite, as he was full of bravado the first time around. For Haney, it’s business as usual. While he’s confident, he’s not overlooking Ferocious one bit.
For Kambosos to be successful and win this fight, he’s going to have to make Haney fight his fight. For him to do that, he will need to find a way to get inside the jab of Haney. Once in, he will need to rough the champion up and go to the body. Because if we’re being honest, there’s a significant gap in skill level. Kambosos will also need to give the crowd a reason to stay engaged and cheering for him.
For Haney, he simply needs to repeat what he did in fight number one while upping his punch output and letting his hands go. That will help to make sure there’s no way he can be on the wrong end of a decision. He has the height and reach advantage, so he should jab, jab, jab until he can’t jab anymore. He also needs to sit down on his punches to get the maximum amount of power behind his shots. If Haney does that, Ferocious will have to respect his power.
PREDICTION!
I see Devin Haney winning this rematch in even more dominant fashion. I think he’ll look to make a statement by being more aggressive and possibly pushing for a knockout victory. However, I see Kambosos being resilient and stubborn enough not to get knocked out in front of his home country fans. In the end, Haney retains his undisputed status via a dominant, wide unanimous decision.
