Devin Haney Welcomes Regis Prograis to Keep Talking

After a bit of extended haggling, WBC super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KO’s) finally got the match with former undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KO’s) penned that he so craved. During this period of negotiation however, Prograis became rather miffed on a number of occasions and got to mouthing off at Haney in gruff fashion.

During some of these tirades, the two-time champion threatened to mop the floor with Haney and stated his career was giftwrapped. Now, in a recent interview with ThaBoxingVoice, Haney was only too happy to address both topics.

“That’s the last thing that I am, is spoon fed. If anyone got it out the mud, it’s me! I started in Mexico, I built my way. I was ‘email champ’ for a year and a half, two years or something like that – I had to go to Australia to get my position. If it wasn’t for that, they would have kept denying me, you know, trying to shut me out. So, if anybody was spoon fed, it’s not me!”

GOT TO SHOW ME!

When Haney takes on Prograis, he will also be staging his premiere fight in the new division. With this being the case, the world will watch together to see how The Dream carries the weight, if his power and speed are the same, and how his stamina looks. Despite all the unknowns, as is to be expected, Haney is still betting on himself to prevail. This is a large part of the reason why he can dismiss Rougarou’s harsh soundbites with such nonchalance.

“Keep talking, that’s all they need to do is keep talking. And on December 9, I’m going to be the one talking. I’m going to let my hands do the talking in the ring and after I am victorious, I will be the one talking. I know that Regis is really a humble guy, he’s really a nice guy but he is just putting on this persona, which is cool. But December 9, we will see!”

As Haney himself alluded to, for better or worse, all the relevant answers about this duel will be provided on December 9. Until then, we can be assured that these two will provide a great deal more commentary on the other. So stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for all the meaningful updates!
