Terri Harper Calm and Relaxed
For unified super featherweight champion Terri Harper (10-0, 5 KO’s), there is no question that she is getting used to the limelight of a champion. This Friday August 7, she will make the first defense of her WBC super featherweight title and the third defense of her IBO strap.
With these previous experiences under her belt, Harper enters her showdown with former Olympian Natasha Jonas (9-1, 7 KO’s) with a relaxed and laid back mindset.
WALK IN THE PARK
“Yeah, there are a lot of insane pressures on me, but if I am honest, I am just enjoying this journey. I popped up out of nowhere, here I am on the biggest stage. So for me, I don’t feel no pressure compared to what I felt winning against Eva [Wahlstrom]. You, yourselves, Matchroom [Boxing], Sky [Sports] took a big gamble and I stepped up to the occasion.”
WHO SHE BEAT?!
Outside of tenure on the big stage, Harper simply believes that her gas tank and impressive work rate will be too much for Jonas to contend with. Sure, she has heard Jonas and her coach say that they are looking for the stoppage, but this is not something that Harper is overly concerned about.
“Yeah, I am going to go for the stoppage obviously. Tasha has not been ten rounds, she has not proven that she can go the distance and I believe if I land a good clean shot on Tasha, its lights out.”
“…yeah, they are talking about the power and Tasha’s knockout rate but all she’s fighting against is nobodies! Who has she stepped in the ring with? I could knock someone out who is just going to stand there on the ropes and take a shot, it’s not hard to look good when you’re not fighting anybody. Tasha has not really proven herself .”
“…Tasha has not done ten rounds. She is now saying that she is fitter than me and she can now do ten rounds but you don’t get fighting fit in just one camp. I just don’t see why they believe she can now do ten rounds and fight at my pace just from one training camp. But I don’t know, we’ll see. Sometimes you can read too much into stuff, but like I said it comes down to Friday night in the ring.”
