Jermall Charlo Promises Late 2023 Return

For the past two years, WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (32-0, 22 KO’s) has remained idle. To date, outside of suggesting that his stagnation is related to a mental health episode, Charlo has been consistently tight-lipped about the situation. Yet, at a recent press event, Hit Man gave his assurance that he will hit the ring before the year’s end.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring either! I’ll be back before the end of the year though, I promise you that. I’m better now! Everybody go through things and I faced my adversity and the best thing about it is I get to beat the adversity.”

OPTIONS AT HAND

Many thought that Jermall Charlo was going to be the recipient of the mega-showdown with undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Instead, his brother, undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo, answered the call of duty. Therefore it will be revealing to see what version of Hit Man next slides through the ropes for combat.

Without question, all his fans and detractors will be eager to see what level of competition he opts to return to. Will he ease his way back into the squared-circle or will Charlo go the Errol Spence route and face stiff opposition directly after suffering a notable layoff and personal calamity?

“At a point in my life, I didn’t know what mental health even was and a lot of people kind of shy away from showing that sensitive side of themselves. Yeah, because I am the champ, they are looking at me like they are expecting greatness and sometimes I don’t have the greatness to provide and I am not mentally focused. So now that I am mentally focused, I feel like I am a better person. I evolved into something y’all probably would have never known.”

Only time will tell. Technically speaking, Charlo has a slew of significant options, starting with Interim WBC 160-pound champ Carlos Adames and #1 (WBC) ranked Gennady Golovkin. Fellow champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly just fought in May and should be open for business. WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara is also in the market for mayhem. First though, we must make sure Charlo makes it to the ring. He has been MIA for over two years, after all. So it will be really interesting to see if any official fight announcements come out of his camp in the near future. Either way, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
