Keith Thurman Wants A Good Financial Contract To Fight Conor Benn

Former unified welterweight champion Keith “One-Time” Thurman (30-1, 22KO) has been hearing his name a lot lately. Especially from top contender Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (21-0, 14KO), and he has finally decided to respond.

Prior to the announcement of the Chris Eubank Jr bout, Benn has been on a mission for a big fight. The former unified champion is one of many of his targets. During a live feed on social media, Benn expressed being surprised with Thurman’s lack of interest in the fight by declaring that One-Time should hang up the gloves.

Injuries have indeed plagued the former unified champion’s career by needing longer recovery time between fights. After grabbing the WBC title off of Danny Garcia in 2017, Thurman took a two-year hiatus before returning against Josesito Lopez in 2019.

That year, he suffered his first career defeat against future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao, which resulted in Thurman being inactive again until a showdown with former WBA ‘regular’ junior welterweight champion Mario Barrios in February 2022. At 33 years of age and frequent inactivity, fans can relate to Benn’s comments on Thurman leaving the sport.

SHOW THURMAN THE MONEY

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Thurman finally spoke about the situation and sent out a warning that his silence doesn’t mean he is weak.

“I think I had to google what his face looked like, so I kind of have an image now.

“Seems like he’s got a decent boxing background coming from a fight family and everything. I don’t know enough about the kid […] anybody who’s saying my name y’all know what to really do. Talk that ish, if you want to talk that ish, you know what I’m saying. You talk it hard enough I might have to talk back.”

“I can only let people say so much. I might have done three days of silence, but doesn’t mean I’m out here trying to be silent. At the end of the day, I’m about good fights. I’m all about the contract. If his management has a contract and a legitimate payday […] I love good contracts, so if the money is there on the table and the date is good, and we can make it happen.”
