Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson Real or Just Speculation?
A fight that fans would love to witness is a lightweight unification showdown featuring WBC champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) and WBA belt-holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs). According to Tank’s coach Kenny Ellis, it could occur by the end of the year. However, is the boxing public being sold a bill of goods?
Many in the boxing community were shocked by the news that IBF champion Vasyl Lomachenko turned down the chance to fight Davis in November. The camp of Davis views it as Lomachenko ducking a fight with Tank.
During an interview on the MillCity Boxing podcast, Ellis said they’ve turned the page and is targeting a fight with Stevenson.
“Hopefully, Shakur won’t duck. People say Tank is ducking Shakur, let’s see.”

According to Ellis, Stevenson, and Lomachenko are the only ones left worth fighting at 135. Upon hearing what he had to say, the WBC lightweight champion posted a simple but loud message on social media.
TALK IS CHEAP
Ellis’s comments will excite quite a few boxing enthusiasts. It’s certainly understandable. There’s a strong argument that Davis and Stevenson are the best at 135. Over the years, they’ve talked only about fighting one another.
The WBC champion is on record saying that he will expose Davis. It would be a fascinating matchup between Stevenson’s elite boxing skills and Davis, with his noted explosiveness and punching power. However, others are skeptical and have let their feelings known on boxing message boards.
If it does occur, it would be one of the big fights of the year. However, boxing has been littered with discussions of a mega-fight, only for it not to happen. Hope springs eternal is not always the case with this sport. Let’s hope that what Ellis said leads to them fighting one another.
