Brandun Lee Impresses as he Chops Down and Takes Out Juan Heraldez
An intriguing contest took place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California as Brandun Lee (24-0, 22 KOs) took on Juan Heraldez (16-2-2, 10 KOs) in a ten-round junior welterweight contest. Under the promotion of Cameron Dunkin’s D&D Boxing, Lee has been getting a lot of buzz from boxing insiders.
The 22-year-old has shown impressive punching power while fighting regularly on SHOWTIME’s boxing series, ShoBox. But he’s more than just fistic TNT and is ready to display his all-around skills in the ring. But so far, Lee has caught the eye of many as the resident of La Quinta, California is currently ranked ninth by the IBF at 140 pounds.

The hard hitter was in tough against a Heraldez who was regarded as Lee’s toughest test, so far, as a pro. The resident of North Las Vegas, Nevada likes to move and has excellent boxing skills. However, he’s also a fighter on the rebound. In October of 2020, he was TKO’d in three rounds by former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis.
BATTLE OF WITS
Things got off to a spirited start as both men let the power shots go. But starting in round two, Heraldez was doing a nice job of showing variety as he moved, in hopes of not being a stationary target. Lee adjusted by getting his jab going, applying more pressure, and targeting the head and body.
POWER COMES TO THE FOREFRONT
Lee continued to apply smart pressure heading into the middle rounds. You could get a sense that it was a matter of time before the power would come into play. That was the case in the seventh. With a minute to go in the round, a straight left-jab right-hand put Heraldez down and out!
It was the first time that Lee had to go past four rounds. His patience and conditioning were impressive. Given his youth, the winner has plenty of time to further develop. Look for him to continue to ascend in the welterweight rankings in 2022.
