Liam Williams Wants a Rematch With Chris Eubank Jr

Almost one calendar year ago to the day, middleweight Liam “The Machine” Williams (24-4-1, 19 KO’s) suffered the fourth loss of his career. This unanimous decision loss came at the hands of Chris “Next Gen” Eubank Jr (32-3, 23 KO’s). Now, if given his choice, Williams would love a rematch with Eubank Jr.

In the build-up to that contest, there was a great deal of animosity exchanged between the two principle athletes that resulted in an action-filled fight. Unfortunately for him, Williams was primarily the victim of most of the highlights having been floored four times over the course of the event.

In his first fight since, Williams secured an impressive second round knockout victory over Nizar Trimech. Having climbed back into the win column, The Machine is aiming to nab a meaningful name in his next fight. Unsurprisingly, Williams would love to run it back with Eubank Jr., as he explained to IFL TV.

“I’d love the Eubank fight again, obviously.”

IS THE TIME RIGHT?

Being a realist, Williams understands that Eubank Jr might overlook the request. This is true due to the dominant fashion in which Next Gen prevailed in their duel. Also, Eubank Jr was just quickly polished off and stopped by Liam Smith in his last prizefight.

“In terms of business, I don’t think that makes sense for them because they can say, ‘why would we have a rematch with him because we’ve already beat him,’ you know. Which is fair enough, but you know it makes sense. I had a couple problems going into that fight. No excuses, it was up to me to fight . . . but I’d like to fight Eubank again.”

Similar to The Machine, Eubank Jr. is hopeful that he can secure his own rematch with Liam Smith. Yet, if he cannot get the immediate rematch, which there is no guarantee that he will, perhaps another fight with Williams is not a bad idea; especially if he was able to repeat his initial performance. For the time being though, we will just have to wait and see how the backroom politics resolve themselves.
