Luis Alberto Lopez Does Not Care To Rematch Josh Warrington
On December 10, Luis Alberto Lopez (27-2, 15KO) upset the two-time champion Josh “Leeds Warrior” Warrington (31-2-1, 8KO) to become IBF featherweight champion. Under the assumption of a contractual rematch clause, Leeds Warrior would certainly look to rectify the majority decision loss. However, without one, Lopez neither obligated nor willing rerun a bout with Warrington.
In the build-up to the fight, the former IBF champion was hoping that a victory over Lopez would lead to his next fight being in the United States. The Mexican killed that plan, directing Warrington to the back of the title shot line.
LOPEZ HAS NO INTEREST IN REMATCHING WARRINGTON
During an interview with IZQUIERDAZO, Lopez openly declined a rematch while calling Warrington a dirty fighter.
“No, never. The truth is he is a very dirty fighter. He does not have respect. I think he does not even deserve to be boxing. In my opinion, the fighting style of the now former champion is dangerous for those who are in a ring with him.”
Some fans will be upset with Lopez’s decision given how close the fight was. However, in his own defense, he went on to say the reason for there being no rematch clause is because team Warrington was looking beyond their fight.
“They had other plans, so there never was one. I said to be careful with that because I like to ruin plans, and you saw what happened.”
