Micaela Lujan Could Unify with Clara Lescurat Following Win Over Irma Garcia
IBF super flyweight champion “La Princesita” Micaela Milagros Lujan (11-1-1, 3KO) retained the title after going the distance with former WBA bantamweight champion Irma “Torbellino” Garcia (21-5-1, 4KO).
The 23-year-old Argentinian’s aggressive nature and up-pace tempo prevailed against the experience of the former champion. Lujan started fast out of the corner looking to test Torbellino’s stamina. But the 41-year-old Garcia showed true grit by scrapping to the very end.
As both fighters fought hard, trading shots in a phonebooth, the crowd cheered for Lujan and the challenger who traveled to the champion’s backyard. La Princesita won the fight via majority decision and successfully defended the title for a second time.
A UNIFICATION IS IN ORDER
La Princesita can rest for a brief moment before resuming her championship journey. Lujan is on a roll and could unify against newly crowned WBO champion Tamao Ozawa (17-5, 6KO). Typically a call for the best fighter in the division, WBC champion Lourdes Juarez (32-2, 4KO), would be in order. However, the smart money is on Argentine WBA champion Clara Lescurat (7-0, 3KO).
Lescurat, in a short timeframe, lifted the WBA title off of Maribel “Pantera” Ramirez in June. The 34-year-old has thrown the division off guard with the biggest victory of her short career.
This is a homegrown, high-octane fight that is a promoter’s dream. The division is ripe for someone to step out in front and these two are on a sure-fire collision course.
