Sergio Martinez Wins A Unanimous Decision Over Macaulay McGowan!
Former unified middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (55-3-2, 30KOs) continued his winning ways after dominating Macaulay McGowan (14-3-1, 3KOs) over ten rounds of action. The future Hall of Famer was utterly dominant from the moment the bell rang. The fourth consecutive win in his comeback kept him on track for greener pastures as he moves forward.
MCGOWAN IN OVER HIS HEAD!
Even with Martinez being 46 years old, the much younger and fresher McGowan had absolutely nothing in his arsenal to compete with the aged former champion. Martinez, a southpaw, came out in his usual stance with his hands by his side as he pressed forward behind a quick flicking jab.
Maravilla would unleash right hooks to the body and straight lefts to the head of McGowan. Meanwhile, McGowan would spend the majority of the fight in retreat mode. Every now and then we would see the age of Martinez combined with bad habits surface. In these moments, he would square himself on the ropes, which allowed McGowan to land the occasional blow.
FINISHING STRONG DOWN THE STRETCH!
The Argentine great would finish the fight in absolutely dominating fashion. The first of two knockdowns came in the seventh round via a nice right hook to the body! The second one would come in the tenth and final round with a nice, straight left-hand setup by his flicker of a right jab.
Despite the winning performance, it is still premature to proclaim Martinez a live middleweight threat. We have still yet to see him face a legitimate contender who can really test him. Only then will we be able to really gauge where he’s at.
