Wanheng Menayothin announces he is hanging them up!

In a surprising development, WBC World minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin AKA Chayaphon Moonsri (54-0, 18 KOs) has decided he’s calling it a career and has retired from boxing.

On June 21, Menayothin took to social media to make the announcement. As he explained, the reason behind his decision was due to the toll the sport had taken on him physically.

What makes this move startling is what seemed to be ahead. The champ looked like he was on the verge of taking his career to a different level.

In July 2019, he signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy in an attempt to not only gain more exposure but also with an eye of fighting in the United States. Now it seems that it will not happen as the Thai champ has chosen to exit the sport never fighting outside of his home country.

Unbeaten with an eye-opening record of having never lost in 54 fights with twelve world title defenses, the 34-year-old was one of the more accomplished smaller-weight fighters in recent memory.

If Menayothin indeed sticks to his decision to stay retired, he certainly left his mark when it comes to the sport’s “Little Men” and has had a career he can be proud of.
