Raymond Muratalla Narrowly Retains Title over Andy Cruz
In his first official IBF title defense, lightweight champion Raymond “Danger” Muratalla (24-0, 17 KO’s) defeated gold medal Olympian Andy Cruz (6-1, 3 KO’s) by way of majority decision. Nearly the entirety of the duel played out like a technical cat-and-mouse game. This took the form of Cruz using his nimble feet to glide around the ring only to find Muratalla sticking closer than a nail in the tire.
Over the course of the treacherous twelve rounds, the consistently heavier and more meaningful shots were thrown by Danger. Despite having the heavier hands, the IBF champion couldn’t accumulate enough damage to put Cruz down. In the end, the judges favored Muratalla’s rough knuckles over Cruz’s fancy feet. When the cards were read, the verdict stood as 114-114, 118-110 and 116-112.
With the win under his belt, Danger is already looking to pen his next duel. If given his way, he would test his might with the winner of the upcoming prizefight between WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson and Lopez will go head-to-head this January 31. While he may want that duel, there is no guarantee that the winner will want to face him. So, let’s wait and see what Team Muratalla can come up with next.
“I want to fight the biggest fights! I want the winner of Shakur and Teo!”
