Jai Opetaia Gears Up for Showdown Against Ellis Zorro

One-time IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia (23-0, 18KO) is taking his upcoming opponent, Ellis Zorro (17-0, 7KO), very seriously. Anticipating a challenging bout, Opetaia is prepared to go the full twelve rounds against the British fighter.

In the lead-up to a mega-fight card where upsets are possible, Opetaia, in an interview with FightHype, expressed his readiness for the best version of Zorro.

“I’m curious to see how he comes out, how aggressive he’s going to be, and stuff like that. If it goes the distance, I’m ready for twelve rounds of war. I’ve trained hard, I’ve trained for a version no one’s ever seen of Ellis. I’m expecting him to come out and fight his heart out.”

“This is his chance to become great, to become one of the best. You want to be the best, you got to beat the best, and I am the best. I’m expecting a good version of him, so let’s get it on.”

FROM A HOT START TO LOSING THE TITLE

Opetaia began the year with an impressive title defense, stopping then-undefeated challenger Jordan Thompson. However, he faced the challenges of the sport when the IBF stripped away his title for not waiting to fight a rematch against Mairis Briedis.

The one-time champion is wise to focus on the task at hand against Zorro, who comes from the Fury family tree as the cousin of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. He made a big splash on the scene after winning the WBO European title against Horsea Burton on May 12.

Boxing fans can catch all the action on the Day of Reckoning DAZN PPV live on December 23 in Saudi Arabia.
