Scott Quigg Delivers a Message to Jono Carroll

Former WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (35-2-2, 26ko) is set to take on former title contender Jono Carroll (17-1-1, 3ko), at the Manchester Arena on March 7.

The two men exchanged verbal jabs on social and the former title contender has even expressed being smart in this fight when interviewed by 3kingsboxing.

However, during the official press conference, the more experienced former champion wasn’t shy about letting his opponent know what was going to happen.

“This is a fight that really excites me. He says what he says but he’s gonna come and try to have a go but he’ll get demolished. It’s as simple as that.”

When British Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed this as a do-or-die situation, Quigg agreed.

“Yes definitely. First of all, it’s good to be back, back in Manchester, exciting. Been out of the ring a long time. Very frustrating time but through all that frustration, I’m back, back with Joe (Gallagher) and I am looking forward to March 7.”

There is a lot on the line for both fighters. Carroll is currently ranked in only one organization, the IBF at number nine. A defeat to a non-ranked fighter would be a major setback and kill any plans of returning to championship title status.

Quigg missed all of 2019 due to injuries and a loss basically closes any window of opportunity for the foreseeable future.

INTERESTING FACTS

Carroll started his career in Australia and hasn’t lost a fight in Manchester Arena. His counterpart however, who will be making his fifth appearance at Manchester, is 3-1 in his last four outings. Both last fought there in 2016. Although, Carrol won his match via points, Quigg ended his victories by technical knockout.

Fights where careers are on the line are when fighters let it all hang out and this promises to be a fan-friendly affair.
