Regis Prograis Plans to Punch Haney’s Ticket to the Pain Train
Following a short spell of frustration, WBC super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KO’s) has the signed contract that he wanted in hand. As a result, Prograis will face unified lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KO’s) on December 9 in his first duel at 140-pounds. From the moment that fight was a potential reality, Prograis has maintained his belief that he will put the hurt on the lightweight champion.
In a recent Q&A with EsNews, Rougarou made it clear that his thoughts on the matter have not been amended.
“I’m not predicting a big knockout, I feel like I am going to hurt him. I really feel like I am going to hurt him bad. I don’t see no other way around it – like me not hurting him. He gets hit by a bunch of shit and I know I’m going to be the biggest puncher he’s ever fought, and with those 8 ounces on it’s a different level. I’m not going to say that I am going to knock him out, but I feel like I am going to hurt him!”
WHO SHALL PREVAIL?
The upcoming showdown will be revealing for both fighters. In terms of Prograis, he is coming off a somewhat soggy performance against Danielito Zorrilla this past June 17. Obviously, he would love to rebound with a great showing and win over the rising champion in this high profile affair. A victory will certainly inject Rougarou’s career with a fresh hit of octane; a loss on the other hand would be no less than crippling.
As for Haney, he is riding high off of first defeating George Kambosos to become the undisputed lightweight champion and then defending his quartet of titles two times. First against Kambosos and then in a hard fought, narrowly decided contest with three-division champion Vasily Lomachenko. Provided that Haney captures a solid and convincing win over Prograis, his star is sure to rise that much higher.
