Oscar De La Hoya Says Isaac Cruz Turned Down Ryan Garcia Fight! Team Cruz Denies They Did!

Former WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) is currently embroiled in a war of words with top lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (22-2-1, 15KOs). Or, his team, to be more accurate, over allegedly rejecting an offer to fight him. We here at 3kingsboxing.com recently reported that Garcia was seeking a bout with Cruz.

According to Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De la Hoya, team Cruz turned down what he described as a very lucrative offer; one that would’ve made him more money than he made versus Gervonta Davis in his last fight. This news caused Garcia to activate his Twitter fingers and diss ‘Pitbull’, labeling him a Chihuahua for allegedly turning down the fight.

Sean Gibbons of Knucklehead Boxing, a representative of Cruz, chimed in. He immediately dismissed the claims that team Cruz turned down the fight. He also hit back at Garcia, stating that they were prepared to offer him a purse he deserved, if he was serious about wanting to fight Cruz.

PENS MAKE FIGHTS

Ryan Garcia has not fought in a year due to needing a break to focus on his mental health and injuries sustained while preparing for Jo Jo Diaz in 2021. It’s understandable that the hard-hitting contender wants back in the ring with a top tier fighter. Moreover, it also seems that targeting Cruz is a strategic move considering he just fought and Gervonta Davis a very tough fight. Garcia has been angling to get a fight with Davis for the last couple of years now with no luck. If he and Cruz were to fight and he knocked him out, King Ry would be able to boast about disposing of a guy his rival Davis went twelve rounds with.

At this point, all parties involved should remove themselves from social media and negotiate a deal in private. The back and forth obviously isn’t helping either side inch closer to an agreement. However, if this fight does get made, it would surely be a firefight. The winner would also make a huge statement. Let’s hope cooler heads can prevail and a deal gets made.
